The Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council is a consortium of 12 federally recognized Indian tribes in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. The Council is bringing tobacco abuse prevention and control activities to five Indian tribes in Wisconsin through radio and television public service announcements; developing an educational kit on traditional tobacco use; hosting educational community gatherings; restricting tobacco sales to minors; support 100% smoke-free workplaces, including casinos; distributing educational posters at all retail outlets on reservations and encouraging retailers to place tobacco products out of sight; supporting the elimination of free tobacco product samples; encouraging tribes to use tobacco tax rebates for tobacco abuse prevention programs; supporting no rebates on tobacco sales to tribal members; hosting a Youth Retreat and Cultural Cessation Camp; and providing nicotine replacement therapies to tribal clinics.

Research shows that when students eat healthy and are more physically active, they do better in school. With the help of CDC, communities nationwide are putting this research into practice, year-round.
Learn more about what communities are doing to help schools become places where students not only learn about the importance of eating healthier and being more physically active but, in fact, eat healthier and move more.
