How to Make a Healthy Change in Your Community Today

During the past 30 years, obesity rates have increased significantly. Approximately one in three adults and one in six children are obese.  Obesity contributes to serious chronic conditions and the CDC estimates medical costs associated with obesity are almost $150 billion per year.

In this podcast, Rebecca Payne, Chief of the Training, Translation, and Communication Branch in the Division of Community Health, discusses how the CDC is working with communities across the country to fight obesity and make it easier for residents to live healthier lives.  Rebecca is joined by Lynn Cosgrove from Tucson, AZ and Taylor Clark from Birmingham, AL who share how this Communities Putting Prevention to Work initiative has benefited both residents and businesses in their communities.

Learn More About CDC’s “Healthy Schools” Initiative

Research shows that when students eat healthy and are more physically active, they do better in school. With the help of CDC, communities nationwide are putting this research into practice, year-round.

Learn more about what communities are doing to help schools become places where students not only learn about the importance of eating healthier and being more physically active but, in fact, eat healthier and move more.
